"The film Wine of the Souls follows six foreigners along their paths in search of healing, self-discovery and mystical experiences. They embark on a pilgrimage to the Amazonian Rainforest, the birthplace of the Santo Daime Religion." -- Camera Viva

The brew ayahuasca, which means "vine of the dead", and which is also known as "the wine of the souls", has been used since time immemorial by the shamans of the Amazon to enter into contact with their ancestors, to see into the future, and to cure illness, among other things. Its exact origins are unknown. In Brazil, the Church of Santo Daime uses ayahuasca under the name of Daime in its ceremonies.

This religion unites CHristian faith with shamanic wisdom. Every year, groups of foreigners embark on a pilgrimage for the remote villiage of Ceu do Jurua, in the Amazonian Rainforest, a journey of three days by boat and four hours walking from the closest city. Once there, they participate in the ritual "feitio" (preparation) of the sacramental brew, the everyday life of teh community and the many religious ceremonies of the Santo Daime. Founded in 1930 by a grandson of slaves, Mestre Raimundo Irineu Serra, the doctrine of the Amazonian Rainforest is now being shared with the whole world.

The Voynich Manuscript The Voynich Manuscript
Clemens, Raymond
Yale University Press

Many call the fifteenth-century codex, commonly known as the Voynich Manuscript, the world s most mysterious book. Written in an unknown script by an unknown author, the manuscript has no clearer purpose now than when it was rediscovered in 1912 by rare books dealer Wilfrid Voynich. The manuscript appears and disappears throughout history, from the library of the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II to a secret sale of books in 1903 by the Society of Jesus in Rome. The book s language has eluded deciphe...

Norse Mythology Norse Mythology
Gaiman, Neil
W.W. Norton & Co. Inc.

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales.

In Norse Mythology, Gaiman stays true to the myths in envisioning the major Norse pantheon: Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin's son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki--son of a giant--blood brother to Odin and a trick...
