The Classic Book of Love and Craft Poetry

Winner of the 1975 Clover International Poetry Competition Award.

A book of ritual and love poetry of the Goddess by Victor H. Anderson, Grand Master of the Feri/Faery Faith and Kahuna. In print for four decades, Thorns was first published in 1970 and is now available in its 2nd edition.

Victor H. Anderson was the seminal teacher of the Feri tradition. An extraordinary poet, priest, and shaman, he trained some of the most influential voices in neo-Paganism, including Starhawk and Gwydion Pendderwen. Blind since childhood, Anderson began teaching the tradition in the 1950s in California. He is the author of the posthumous work of poetry Lilith's Garden, and coauthor of Etheric Anatomy: The Three Selves and Astral Travel.

"Victor was a true bard, as evidenced by the beautiful legacy of poetry he infused into the Feri Tradition." -- Witch Eye magazine

"Thorns is a delight for any lover of poetry, Pagan or not... [T]he poems are of love, death, memory and beauty, and many of them seem to be written for ritual use. The use of Pagan images and metaphors within even the non-Pagan poems makes for enjoyable reading." -- Lady Breid Foxsong, Sacred Hart magazine

"An intriguing collection of Goddess-inspired poetry." -- Scott Cunningham, bestselling author of Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner and Living Wicca

"This book contains much of Craft lore and symbolism and has been highly praised by members of nearly all Witch traditions. This highly acclaimed Craft poetry book is already a Classic." -- Leo Martello, Witchcraft: the Old Religion

"A truly magical adventure, inspirational for all who seek the Kami-no-Michi, the Way of the Gods." -- Anaar, author of The White Wand

"Victor was one of my first teachers in the Craft. I will always be grateful for the worlds he opened up for me... He was fierce, passionate, powerful, real. An inspired poet, he was a brilliant creator of myth and liturgy. He was allied spiritually with all the indigenous traditions of the planet; a true shaman." -- Starhawk, bestselling author of The Spiral Dance

"My interview with the poet and shaman Victor Anderson...was among the most mysterious of my encounters. His was the only story I heard that was clearly from the land of faery. It was pure poetry." -- Margot Adler, Drawing Down the Moon

"Victor wrote beautifully poetic rituals for the Faerie Tradition. Over the years, a number of remarkable people were trained by Victor... The influence of the shamanic tradition now called 'Feri' has been enormous." -- Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, Grimoire for the Apprentice Wizard

"Victor Anderson, the most important exponent of the Feri/Faery Faith in America, is also the person responsible for bringing it to this country. Victor has been a teacher and friend to some of the most influential personalities in the Craft today...

"The name of Victor Anderson is mentioned with a great deal of reverence, as he is one of the few direct discendents of this ancient faith. He is a keeper of the flame." -- Ellen Evert Hopman, People of the Earth (with Lawrence Bond)
